THE GOOD, BAD AND THE UGLY
There was a time when the prospect of having a university of Ibadan-owned television station was the mantra by which we lived in the University media center. We felt doing this would help hugely in building the image of the university, create a wider and more enchanting vista for academic in the system, as their works will receive wider and global quality attention through the medium.
So, since way back in 2012 when I joined the University of Ibadan Media Centre, all hands had been on deck in seeing that the project sees the light of day. At a time there was a team leader from a collaboration agency all the way from Canada, lodged at the UI Guest House and Conference Centre for days just to make sure we get the acts right. So, working late was part of the deal.
Carrying over work from the office to the Senior Staff club and from there to the house was all part of the deal. There was this day when the good, the bad and the ugly mixed up so ironically. I drove out of the gate of UI as the rain threatened. I do not like driving at night and I do not like driving in the rain at any time of the day. But this time, it looked as if I would have to endure the two worst driving situation I can imagine.
So, within reason, I laid my foot on the pedal and, yes I got home in good time to avoid the rain. And yes, it did come down in torrents preceded by NEPA threatening storm.
Predictably, the candle flames of NEPA were blown off in no time. Everywhere was dark. But it is all right. I managed to tuck myself into bed and in no time I must have been purring like a well-manicured cat in its moment of rest.
