FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK
Sowing Ideas, Driving Innovation, and Owning the Digital Moment
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital transformation and smart solutions, the Directorate of Information Technology and Media Services (ITeMS) remains committed to reshaping not just how the University of Ibadan works—but how it thrives. Our mission goes beyond infrastructure; it is about mindset, collaboration, and meaningful application of technology to real-world challenges.
One of our proudest recent initiatives is the Workplace Nutri-Garden Project—an eco-smart venture that blends sustainability with digital innovation. More than a green space, it’s a living lab: a practical demonstration of how tech and tradition can coexist. While digital solutions were not deployed in this phase, this serves as the first-time approach that will lead to digital innovation in the next phase. we are showcasing that food security and workplace wellness can germinate right within our ICT culture.
In ITeMS, we are also asking tough questions: “Who is in charge—you or your device?” In a world where screens blur the boundaries between productivity and distraction, we believe digital literacy is not just about knowing how to use a device—but knowing when and why to use it. Our training sessions, tools, and public conversations are helping staff and students reclaim control and foster purposeful engagement with technology.
And speaking of smart tools, our embrace of AI-powered writing assistants like Grammarly is not about replacing human intellect, but refining it. Across campus, faculty and administrative teams are beginning to recognize the power of clear, confident communication—augmented by the precision and support of intelligent platforms. Writing like a pro is now more accessible than ever, and we’re proud to lead that charge.
These stories, projects, and reflections are the pulse of ITeMS’ commitment - harnessing innovation not as a buzzword, but as a practical force for growth, clarity, and excellence.
Here’s to owning our tools, telling our stories—and growing our future one smart idea at a time.
