UI STUDENTS EXCEL IN NATIONAL COMPETITIONS, IT DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZED
Three students from the University of Ibadan (UI) have distinguished themselves in two national academic competitions, showcasing the institution’s dedication to academic excellence and innovation. The competitions—Distinction Quizathon 2.0 and the National Campus Challenge—were organized by FlexiSAF in collaboration with the Committee of Directors of ICT in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions (COMDICT-NTI).
In the AI-powered Distinction Quizathon, which drew over 6,000 participants from more than 200 Nigerian tertiary institutions, UI’s intellectual power came alive. Daniel Adesanya, a 500-level Petroleum Engineering student, emerged 1st place, securing a ₦1,000,000 prize. Not far behind was Barnabas Oluwasegun, a 200-level Medicine and Surgery student, who grabbed 3rd place and ₦500,000.
Further cementing UI’s reputation for academic prowess, another 200-level medical student, Abayomi Elijah Olutayo, clinched 2nd place in the National Campus Challenge held on May 10, 2025, with a cash prize of ₦150,000.
Behind these student triumphs was the University’s Information Technology and Media Services (ITeMS) Directorate, whose strategic foresight and coordination facilitated the institution’s representation and recognition. The Director of ITeMS received the award on behalf of the University at the closing ceremony of the Committee of Directors of ICT (COMDICT) annual conference, held in partnership with FlexiSAF and Distinction at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
More than just receiving a plaque, the moment served as a testament to ITeMS’s pivotal role in promoting technological integration in academic advancement—ensuring that student excellence is not only cultivated, but also amplified on national platforms.
These successive achievements reinforce the University of Ibadan’s commitment to nurturing intellectual competitiveness, while also highlighting the indispensable work of the IT ecosystem behind the scenes.
